one of the top places we wanted to visit was oxford. steve is interested in the university and there is a lot of history there. oh, and there is a lot of shopping too!
there were so many beautiful buildings and sculptures i could hardly choose what pictures to take!
i used a fisheye lens for the pic on the left.
for the kids, every adventure involved running around and playing. and every adventure usually involved a visit to a sweetie shop.
we ate lunch at the eagle and the child where cs lewis and his friends {some other amazing writers} would gather to chat about their books and drink beer.
hmmm, pouring over the menu and deciding what the best choice was. i ended up with a plate of bangers and mash–and it was delicious!
the pub was really well done. and it was so funny, because the people at the table next to us were from santa barbara–which is about 1.5 hours from our home. crazy!
we loved oxford–now steve is dreaming of working on a PhD at oxford. who knows–maybe we’ll end up in england for a couple years some day?!
Wow not that far from where I live ! What a small world really ! Love your work btw .
Cloe 🙂
have so enjoyed your pics of your trip to england – don’t forget – Hugh Laurie (House) was born in Oxford!!
Wonderful pics! How nice to have family there it had to make everything that much better.
Oh how wonderful! Oxford is such a beautiful city. I hope you guys decide to take the chance of living overseas, I think it’s such a great oportunity (I lived in Germany for 4 and a half years as a child). If you ever end up on this side of the pond, I’d love to take you for afternoon tea!
Cxx
What beautiful memories you are making. Enjoy every one!
Oooh these photos brought back memories for me. I spent some time in Oxford way back in 1988 and I remember how much I loved it. We sat and ate our lunch watching people punting on the river and I also remember the fabulous buildings. Aaah such memories!! I’m no longer with the man I travelled with but I still have lovely memories of travelling around the UK for 7 months, not working. We went from Folkestone in Kent right up beyond the top of Scotland to the Orkney Islands and down the other side of the UK, coming into the middle occasionally to visit somewhere special. Aren’t memories wonderful! Smiles..
oops! I goofed! meant to say “well, NOT all that research…”
we rented a flat in London (summer of 2010) & loved being around so much history! incredible buildings! and tea + scones! We spent a full day in Oxford! fun! and we walked so much we had sore feet!
I wish I had the monetary means to travel abroad with my girls when they were young! there’s something to be said about traveling to expand their view of life on this planet.
As for earning a PhD abroad – sounds very cool! well, that all the research, but the fantasy of living in another city + another country sounds exciting!
SO.Jealous. of your Eagle and Child visit. (I think I’ve reiterated my jealousy in every comment on your England posts. Sorry. But I am. And such.)
If you ever get the opportunity to live in another country for a period of time – TAKE IT!!!! You’re children will widen their perspective of the world, and you can expand the business – woohoo!
For the people in Ohio (or those who plan on visiting), I have a gift card giveaway for Dazzle in Chagrin Falls at my site, if interested. (Referring to Chrissy, above)
Beautiful, beautiful city!
I’ve lived there for a couple of years, left last summer
i have always wanted to visit oxford! if i could do college again, i’d definitely do a study abroad semester at the university of oxford. i love your pictures!
I have a friend who left to day for to do his PhD at Oxford! How fun if you could live in Oxford for a while 🙂 Thankfully my husband got his PhD in Ohio so I was able to meet and marry him! Because I am not PhD material.
All your England posts are giving me a crazy itch to go back! Love your photos!
i love towns full of history & ppl that can appreciate it! love the fisheye lens pic as well.
Chuffed you like Oxford! Despite the bad press recently England is a lovely place to live, join us some day!:)
That would be an amazing experience for Steve to go there and you and the kids would love it too! Wow–fun to think about!
