steve and i took the boys and his mom
to san francisco to pick up his aunt from the airport.
she flew in from england and we have been so excited for her visit!
*
*
since san francisco is about 3 or 4 hours away
we decided to stay overnight in a hotel and break up the driving.
i’d hoped to see some of the city
but i didn’t think we’d have so much fun!
[that’s alcatraz above]
*
*
the weather was perfect
and the boys were such good travelers.
*
*
we got dinner at the franciscan (pier 43)
and it was so delicious.
i ordered crab enchiladas, yum!
*
*
we took in the aquarium by the bay,
which david absolutely loved.
and anything that makes david smile is top of my list.
*
*
we traveled up and down lomard street
along with the other 50 gazillion people visiting san francisco.
but it was so fun to see the steep windy street.
*
*
and we ate ice cream, slept in and laughed a lot
*
*
our little trip ended up being a fun getaway.

if you were planning a one night to getaway…
where would you go
and who would you take with you??
Looks like a great time, we didn’t spend the night since NYC is only about an hour away, but we took in the sights on Sunday..a perfect day in the Northeast. We had lunch at Eataly a new restaurant store that just opened, visited the top of the empire state buidling…love Sleepless in Seattle, and took a wonderful 2 hour double decker bus tour around Manhattan, it was such a perfect day and we were the perfect tourists…me, my dh, and two sons…

right now i am in the whole fall spirt, i am ready to see some leaves and be on a farm. there is a inn called blackberry inn close to gatilinburg tn that is where i would love tospend the night.
I wish that San Fran could be my 1 night road trip…..it is my favorite! However, we’re in Ohio so our 1-night trip would probably be just to Columbus for an Ohio State game or to Cincinnati for the night life….nothing like San Fran though!
Just choosing just one would is hard! I would take a road trip with my mom so we could sing songs off-key, smell the fresh sea air, and enjoy some girl time.
And any time with my husband is wonderful when we only get to see each other about once a week due to our work schedules; just a night away in a hotel, away from our phones, computers, and chores would be lovely!
thanks for sharing your wonderful pictures and family with us!
Ooooh!
I love San Francisco!
Love me some Alcatraz!
Oh yeah!
I know you guys had a BLAST! xo
Hi Lisa,
I love the pic of yourself and your hubby, a great one! Your boys seem to have lots of fun, which is always great 🙂
For one night, our destinatation would be for sure Knokke-am-Zee, in Belgium a fabulous sea town.
So lovely Lisa! I enjoyed this very much, all the smiling photos, your boys ~ SO cute and you and your husband ~ wow, your a beautiful couple! i’m so glad you all had such a wonderful time.
I would definetly go to New York City and be with my baby, my youngest child, she’s just moved there for school and i’m missing her terribly. So it would be NYC for sure.
Happy Belated Birthday dear Lisa,
xoxo

One day? I’d take my daughter on a trip to Corpus Christi to see my grandparents… I’ve been missing them lately!
I would take my husband & son & go to the beach… but I think I wouldn’t be ready to leave in one day! heehee!!
Glad to see you had a great holiday!
Charleston. Lovely city with such a rich history. I’d want my husband with me. Thirtieth anniversary next month, so maybe this will actually happen!
Ooh, I’m envious of your SF trip! Me & hubby were there just one year ago today for our 25th wedding anniversary. Wish we were there again…we *LOVED* San Francisco.

hhhmmm, one night…probably to downtown charleston, sc, my hometown…with the hubs! we never seem to get downtown to eat or hang out, so it would be fun to spend a night there as if we were visiting and walk the cobblestone streets and soak in the history…
I’d go to St. Petersburg, FL and stay at the Don Cesar… have stopped there and looked around but never stayed overnight… it is SOOOOOO beautiful… I’d take my husband (or course) as well as our 6-year old daughter b/c we are the “3 musketeers” and we’d want her to enjoy it also 🙂
San Francisco is one of my favorite cities. If I had a one night getaway it would be to NYC (San Fran would be a close second) with my husband. That’s where we took our honeymoon. For two small town folks, we love the city!
I think Charleston or Savannah…although my husband says we’re going at some point to San Fran and San Diego….he says they’re a must. So I guess that means I”ll go ANYWHERE with my husband and best friend!
Oh that is a hard question!! We spent a couple days in SF MANY years ago before we had kids. The bush man scared me. I didn’t give him any money.
Glad you had fun! 🙂
Hi Lisa, blush blush, can I just say NOWHERE.. I so love being on our 5 acre property and hate leaving it even for one night! Guess my soul has found it’s home! Smiles…
I would like to go to Catalina with my husband.
New York City – my daughters!
Glad you had fun! I LOVE San Francisco! Um, I have several places I would like to go with my boyfriend. New York, back to San Francisco or Chicago, Charleston, SC.
I’d take my best friend from college back to our college town!
That same friend and I “did” SF together spring break of our Jr. yr. Such fun to be reminded of that through your gorgeous photography today!
Love your photos!
If I had to spend the night, it would be South Haven Michigan, right on the shore of Lake Michigan. I would take my son, Max. = )
Yay Lisa! You guys were in our hood! (Our new hood). The pic of David is pretty much the cutest thing ever. What a peanut. We played “tourist” this last weekend too. Wasn’t the weather great?! We rode our bikes from our house to the GG Bridge. Ended up being 25 miles round trip (I literally figured it would be 8-10 tops). I guess just because you can see the bridge doesn’t mean it’s close eh? Anyways, I’m glad that you got such awesome weather. You’re lucky because it’s been wet and cold for the last month practically! 🙂
I would be spoilt for choice, I think Edinburgh in Scotland would be my 1st I really want to see the castle, then maybe the lake District in England, I would take my hubby with me & my children x
I visited San Fran once, but only got a quick driving tour peek. I’d love to go back again someday and spend a few days – and your pictures just help reinforce that! Have you seen the movie What’s Up Doc? It’s one of my faves, and includes a madcap chase through the crazy streets of San Fransisco. It’s hilarious and a must – especially if you’ve just been there!
The Mall of America with my daughter, who is ten-going-on-nineteen. But we’d need more than one night…maybe a month. And buckets of money. Hey, I can dream, can’t I?
Looks like fun! Would love to make this trip again but w/our girls too! We use to live there & go to those spots all the time! Oh I miss the food! And everything else! =)
What a fun trip! Great photos Lisa!
oooh…Well, if only for one night, I’d say either Santa Fe or Taos since we’re in Albuquerque, & I’d take my hubby for sure! I’d want to wait a week or two so that we’d go when the leaves started changing colors. 🙂
hi lisa
how fun – its nice when something simple turns out to be such fun! I love creating memories with my family – that makes my heart want to burst!
i would love to take an overnighter to Santa Barbara with either my hubby or my sweet sister!
xoTiffany
I love day trips to Put in Bay. Its a small island in Lake Erie. My husband’s family has a cottage there that has been in the family (including my girls) for 5 generations. It is so quiet and peaceful. I love to take my bible out to the break wall and read and just take in all the beauty.
we have not taken our kids to san fran. you are the second person this week i know of who has gone and enjoyed it with their children. i think a weekend trip to san fran needs to happen for this jones family!
Probably Monterey Bay…or any beach city. Moving to the Sacramento area, we are not very close to beaches anymore. I we miss them more than anything. As as for who to take along…hubby & kiddos (even the crabby teenager who’d like to stay home & see his girlfriend then hang out with his family).
When my boys were smaller we’d go to Santa Cruz every weekend that it was hot in the bay area.
Lisa,
your boys look like they had so much fun… YAY!
if i was going to plan a one night getaway… i would stay close to home and go stay some place in downtown chicago. it’s such a great city.. and it’s a shame that i live right here (for the last 5 years) haven’t haven’t seen some of the wonders that chicago offers. i would love to have either my best friend go with or my boyfriend and our little one…. hey why not we all go. i really may have to plan this 🙂
i’m glad you guys had such a great weekend.
Cannon Beach … and, either my hubby or my hubby & kiddos! 🙂 We have the best time there! Glad you had such a fun trip to SF!! Such a great city!
