art for freedom

I love to get behind important causes, so when I was asked to create a necklace centered around human trafficking, I jumped at the chance! Jessica, our social media assistant, co-hosted the event and sang that evening. I’m thrilled that I was able to be even a small part of the evening and I invited Jess to share about the event with us! Take it away, Jess!

Hey everyone! Thank you for the opportunity to share a little about Art for Freedom. Human trafficking is an absolutely urgent issue and it is happening in our backyards. It’s heartbreaking. At the same time, it’s events like this that give my heart hope that there is an escape plan in place for those who are being enslaved. There are also a great amount of organizations and ministries popping up to join in the fight. Here is the necklace Lisa created to be auctioned off that night. Isn’t it gorgeous?!

The art show was at the adorable Hive Natural Beauty Collective. There was art donated from artists all over the central coast, feather hair pieces, t-shirts made by Hope Eternal, live art and more. There was also a handful of musicians who really brought the reality of human trafficking to life. I was blessed to be a part of the night. Here are some photos from the event:

All proceeds went to the start up of a human trafficking division of the SARP center. Read more about what they do here.

That’s me and my friend Johnny singing some originals and some covers, all centered around human trafficking. You can listen to Johnny’s tunes here and you can listen to some of mine here.

Here is the completed live art by Shawn Martinez that was done as a response piece to human trafficking and inspired by the artists who performed that night. After it was completed, the winner of the “be their voice in silence” necklace was announced. Needless to say, she was elated!

Thank you Jessica! Your voice is amazing–so beautiful. What an amazing evening. We are so thankful to be part of it.

Today I’m feeling grateful for catching up on cuddles with my boys, my own cozy bed to sleep in and to work with a team of people who have BIG hearts. Share one thing you’re thankful for today!

  1. I work for an anti-trafficking organization and it was based off of Proverbs 31:9. I am in love with this necklace! I hope you decide to sell it!!

  2. Absolutely LOVE the paiting “Distorted Perception.” I’d be lucky to get my hands on one for my home.
Thank you for sharing this cause (we have same issue in Portland, OR) that is spreading throughout the world.

  3. Yes, please consider selling it! Proverbs 31:8-9 is one of my life verses … “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.”
