looking back on 2011

January.

In January we kicked off a new year by visiting Legoland for the first time. Matthias loves legos and he was in lego heaven! And much of lego land is geared toward smaller kiddos–so David loved it too!

February.

Adoption was our theme for February and my twin sister shared her adoption story. It’s a truly beautiful story of how God worked to bring my amazing nieces into our family. You can read all four chapters here.

March.

In March we launched our home decor line. I was incredibly excited to expand our line in this new way–and you all have been so supportive and excited alongside. Thank you!

April.

in April, Matthias learned to ride a bike. you can watch the seriously hilarious video here.

May.

In May I reflected on four things my mother taught me, some beautiful things. You can read the post here.

June.

Steve and I flew to Seattle because I was speaking at a conference. And it turned out to be a magical, much needed getaway for us. Mmmm, I hope we can go back soon!

July.

We borrowed an adorable trailer went camping with a big group of friends and had a blast! The kids were filthy dirty all weekend and we ate tons of delicious camping food. Good times.

 August.

This was big–we flew across the pond to visit cousins in England. It was such a sweet time of bonding and exploring a new place. The boys did great and we fell in love with our family over there. I miss them every day.

Septemeber.

Steve and I had the incredible opportunity to attend the movie premiere of Machine Gun Preacher in LA with Gerard Butler. We created a necklace to raise money for orphans in the Sudan. We were thrilled to be involved in this project.

October.

Photos photos and more photos! We spent days shooting all new photos in preparation for the launch of our new website. The whole project was so much work–involving some very talented and creative people. And i love the new website. Our team rocks!

November.

This month felt so good and so hard. David made some huge strides developmentally {climbing stairs, climbing onto tables} which made my heart sing and my mind race. I wore myself out trying to keep him safe all the time and worrying about what he would do next. We’ve been adjusting our home to make it more David-safe. I’m also trying to relax and let him try new things. And here and there making time to sneak away with my sister and recharge. Time with her feeds my soul. So good.

December.

December brought the sweetest time of the year and time to reflect on our Savior’s birth. We celebrated with family in Omaha and enjoyed the chilly weather and lazy days. It also brings one pretty amazing year to a close.

Wow, looking back it’s been a HUGE year filled with so many blessings. And I can’t believe how much my boys have grown. It makes me feel nostalgic and even a little sad. Time goes to quickly! I want to remember to be present in each moment and to take lots of pictures.

What were a couple of your highlights from 2011? Please share!

  1. lovely recap and just wanted to say i like the voice that your blog has maintained throughout the year… your business has grown, you’ve met celebs, and you’re still you and your family.

  2. There have been so many wonderful moments this year but the highlight would be the birth of our son, Samuel Elias Eades. He has brought us immeasurable joy and happiness.

  3. 2011 has been the hardest of my life: lots of changes
    Jan – lost my mom
Feb – found a lump in a gland under my ear
March – oldest daughter got married, happy time
April – my brother had a massive heart attack and passed away
    May –
June – married to my best friend for 26 years
    July
Aug – youngest daughter got engaged
Sept – oldest daughter told us they are moving 13 hours from us
Oct – my husband lost his job – no money since
Nov – thankful for my family
Dec – spent time with both our girls because this is our last year all in one place during the holidays
Much more happened and We are looking forward to putting 2011 behind us. Excited to see what 2012 will bring. Has to be good can’t handle another year like this one. Sad to see our girls leaving (not sure how I am going to make it with them so far away but I will).

  4. I love this post, and have my own year in review post scheduled for Sunday!

Some of my highlights were: going to Blog Sugar and getting to meet some amazing people, including YOU, a much-needed getaway to Santa Barbara for mine and my hubby’s anniversary, baby girl turning one (she’ll be 2 in March!), making the very difficult decision to end my silver jewelry line (such a weight off of my shoulders) and getting to spend lots of time with my family.

Big hugs to you and your adorable family, and wishing you continued success in 2012 and beyond!

  5. I’m still working through my recap of 2011 but the biggest highlight would have to be welcoming our granddaughter on her due date of 11-11-11. A true gift in 2011!

  6. I Love your blog Lisa 🙂 Thank you for being a great example of a positive woman of God through trials.

My biggest blessing would have to have been my sister trip to the Grand Canyon. Such a fun time to reconnect. (even though we see each other every day). Chrissie had given us the idea a few years back to take a sister trip… And I’m so grateful that she encouraged us to take them. Love seeing the pictures of the two of you 🙂

  7. We accomplished some big projects on this big old house, went to Disney World with the girls for Thanksgiving, toured New England over the summer,I went back to teaching full time after 8 years as a SAHM and just welcomed a new kitten into our family. That may sound like a silly piece of news but phew! He’s wearing me out:)
    Happy New Year!

  8. This year we made a three week trek from Kansas to California and back. We saw the Grand Canyon, the Pacific Ocean, Big Sur, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, the Loneliest Road in America and crossed the Rocky Mountains. It was our 2nd BIG vacay! Our girls are 7 and 9 and have now traveled to 23 of the US States, both oceans, and for kicks we visited the city of Chicago in October. It was a big travel year for our family!

  9. Our biggest highlight was having our 7 yr. old son join our family. He came to us from foster care in March and it has been a time of great challenge and even greater blessing— we love him so much and he fits right in with our older kids.
His adoption will be final on Jan. 20th!! ( I was just looking dreamily at your necklaces to commemorate this amazing event!)
