This post is from four years ago. I just ordered new shoes for both boys and they arrived yesterday–and I remembered this post. As soon as I looked it up, I got tears in my eyes and knew I wanted to share it with again. It gives me all kinds of hope.

these are the shoes david wears every day.
and guess what? they’re worn out.
there’s a hole right through the bottom of the shoe.
and you know how he did it?
exploring, walking, running, and generally getting into trouble.

and we couldn’t be happier.
i remember when david was born
and the doctor told us he would never walk, or talk
that he may not see or hear.
and we cried.
and we wondered and waited.
and one day, when he was five years old-he did it!
for months, he’d been pulling up, cruising, but finally, HE WALKED!!
and now he’s wearing out his shoes. love that.
here are some new kicks. get busy wearing them out, kid!

and david we love you.
you are pure joy and silliness.
I love seeing how much joy he brings your life!
Hi Lisa – Our beautiful third daughter, Abbie, has a rare genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome, and we were also told she’d never talk, may never walk, and would probably not reach a more mature mental capacity than an 18 month old (not to mention the life-threatening seizure disorder, nervous system dysfunction, insomnia like the world has never known, etc.). Well, I’m learning that, about most of these things: They. Were. Wrong. At only 4, she’s running, climbing, doing stairs (albeit with a wide gait and balance issues), swinging on the swings by herself and loving life. She’s also extremely mischievous and quite brilliant actually. She said her first two words recently: “mama” and “hug.” She gives the BEST hugs – in fact, she’s kind of a hugging professional, so this, being her very first word, is so incredibly appropriate.
I also wanted to thank you for the beautiful jewelry I am excited to receive soon (as I just placed my first order!). May God continue to bless your lives and enrich your walk through each of your children! They will each be provided with all they need to walk the walk God has for them (2 Corin 9:8)! They are gifts! 🙂 xoxo
how wonderful for you and David. it’s so great that you and your husband didn’t follow the diagnosis that you received for David. I am so happy for you all.
Pure joy and silliness. Two perfect words to describe your son. I couldn’t agree with you more. Love him.
Go David! Looking forward to you leading me places this summer.
It’s nice to pop in here and see you all doing well. way to go big guy!
Lisa – there is a great kid’s Giveaway on my blog at the moment, i’d love it if you and your dear readers popped over for a chance.
