and indoor laundry.
and it’s so convenient to be in town.
i’m sad to say good-bye to our old backyard.
we put so much work out there. i loved it.

share with us, what is your FAVORITE part of your home?
{happy wednesday!}
hope the unpacking is going well. its’ not usually this long between posts for you.
fav part of our house is definitely the family room, where we spend so much of our time – and spacious enough to have family over – and the big backyard for my 3 and 7 yr old girls.
How great…your new home looks fab. Are you far from your old home?
i’ve been without a computer for over a week so i’m just now getting around to reading through your blog and leaving comments! my husband died a year ago and since then i’ve been trying to make our house into my house. i’ve done this by putting in new frilly shower curtains, getting a new bedspread and putting white framed pictures on the living room wall. Right now my favorite room is my whole house. By making it my house i’m enjoying all of my new additions. of course there are things of my husbands that are still here..and those add to a feeling of wholeness.
has to be the fireplace for sure! we’ve had one in all four of our houses except one and i was miserable for those three years!! and so weird, the tile around your fireplace looks identical to mine! so does that mean this Georgia girl has California taste??
How exciting to be in your new house! 🙂
So this Minnesotan is confused too…what do you mean by “indoor laundry” as opposed to “outdoor laundry”? My undies would be frozen!
does that mean you had outdoor laundry?… I am from WI and that would never work here. House looks really nice :).
We are moving to a new home next week. We will miss our old neighborhood but are very excited about our new home with wood floors and the kids will have their own room. We also put alot of work into our plants and yard but our new place is freash new pallette and the yard is huge. I am living amongst boxes, boxes, and more boxes. The house looks beautiful so far….can’t wait to see more 🙂
your house looks beautiful from those pictures. my favorite part of my house…the old parts…the wood floors, the textured walls and the build in bookcases…love them!
We have lived in our country-style rural house here in Nelson, NZ for 5.5 years and gosh, what are my favourite parts of this house… the verandah, which goes round three sides – we can sit outside all year round and our gas barbeque sits outside our dining room door so i can bbq whenever I like (at least 2-3 times a week) – bliss! I adore our living room because it has a stunning deep red wood/coal burner and we have 2 three seater couches that we recovered in the most divine botanical material I’ve ever seen! It is very elegant with tulips that include the red that is in the fireplace. Oh and I painted the walls a lovely manuka honey colour which matches the upholstery in the couches. We also have beautiful rimu wall panelling on one main wall. Yummm it’s so warm-feeling! Our bedroom because we sit up in bed in the morning having a cup of tea, gazing out at our garden. Hey, I guess I really love this house! Big smiles…
Two things tie for faves at my new house: my master bath has a deep soaking tub with a big window next to it where I can read, get warmed up, and look at the evergreen trees. Number two is our nice, flat, backyard and all the windows along the backside of the house so I can easily see what kind of trouble my girls are getting into!
Happy settling in, Lisa!
I love the hardwood floors in our house. They are pretty specific to this area in the 50’s and they’re really cool.
So glad you found the important stuff! A girl has got to have her tweezers!
I loved your backyard, too. Can’t wait to see your new place!
I love my house in many ways. The two things that come to mind right now are the fact that it’s close enough to walk to different places, but still feels like it’s out in the country, and I love our backyard that is bursting with nature!
I love my kitchen. Since remodeling it is so cozy and warm with lots of counter space and storage.
we just moved 2 weeks ago and it is so unsettling at first, but extremely worth it!!! My front yard is literally the beach…woohoo!!
i love my front porch! i feel so blessed to love my home. can’t wait to see more pictures! my friend ordered jewelry from you yesterday. i love getting the word out!!!!
It seems that all the small things are what makes a house a home, ya know? When we moved into our current home some of my favorite things were the 3 car garage (we had a 1 car), the 3 bathrooms (we had 1) and the laundry room (we had to do it down the dingy basement)! I can’t wait to see & hear more about your new home……enjoy!
I am loving what I see of your house so far! I can’t wait to see the rest! I can’t decide what I like best about my house. The floor plan was my all time favorite when we bought it, it’s very open and airy. I love it.
yay pictures!! my fav part of our house… probably the backyard (good-sized area to play, swing set, pool, and HOT TUB) and the privacy. i’m always dreaming of how to make my house a bit bigger. we’re a little cramped. but it’s hard to think about moving.
Hi Lisa –
Glad to hear you are settling in and that you found your make-up and tweezers – i could go longer w/out make-up than tweezers – I need those everyday!!
My favorite part of my house is our living room – its where we all end up – its where the kids restle – it where my heart is – most of the time!!
have a great day!

my favorite part of our home is all the little “things” we’ve picked up along the way.
our special red couch that was recovered by zack’s mom & grandma, but originally came from my parents when they were first married. a HUGE framed photo of a little part of an Italian town, photographed by a college friend/bridesmaid when she was studying abroad. books, love notes stashed in desk drawers…
for us it’s not a building that makes a home (because we seem to move every year) but more so the memories we create inside the home.
xo.
My husband and I bought our second home (our current one is a 3 level townhouse, the most common found in VA). I love the style of it, it fits all of our needs perfectly! My absolute favorite part?
My kitchen! I spend hours in there, & love every minute of it! 🙂
I love your washer & dryer! I’d love to get front loaders someday!
our house is currently for sale. when/if it sales i will miss the back patio, with swing. i love the view from there onto the children’s play area, and the rolling hills.
an indoor laundry room is the best!
LOVE the dark wood floors! Congratulations!
i reaaaalllllly miss my old backyard, too. we put a lot of work into it and in our new house the yard has been neglected for 25 years or so. yuck.
but what I do love about our new house is the chandelier, built in book cases and all the windows!
I have a nice, old chair I sit in near my bed with a lamp just beside it – love to go there and read my magazine or novel. usually one of the kids will plop themselves nearby with a book, too, so we have a little calm reading group. So nice!
Family room. Hands down. So many memories created there. It’s just walls, but it’s our place all together.
There are so many things I love about our house. After a long day of house-hunting, my realtor said she had one more for us to look at. I was initially hesitant, but fell in love immediately. Two years later, it seems that every day something else about the house makes me fall in love all over again . . . big, sunny window in my kitchen . . . quiet library to curl up with a good book or catch up on blogs . . . the cutest little turquiose butler’s pantry to store all of our kitchen gadgets . . . a great deck with a blooming hibiscus. The list just goes on and on.
I can’t wait to see more pictures of what you do with your new home.
We have lived in our 50’s rambler for 23 years (I thought we’d only be here for 5, sigh). In ’02, my son took a house building class in school, but since he had also taken in the year before, he got kind of bored so he made all new kitchen cabinet doors for me. We figured out how to stain and varnish the new doors and old cabinets so they match and I love them! I still think that if we ever sell the house, I may need to take the doors with me! Indoor laundry, that is so California. 🙂 I’m in the frozen tundra of MN, nothing is outside!
He, he, he, I love how you’re so happy about tweezers and makeup. I can tell already that it won’t be long before your new house becomes a home. It’s fun taking this journey with you. Good luck with all the unpacking.
My favorite part of my home is my enclosed front porch…on a beautiful breezy day with a good book and a cup of tea! Or, on a blistery winter day snuggling with someone I love! Congrats on your new house and have fun making it your home! xo
I don’t know what your house looks like exactly but it appears to have good bones ; )
Favorite part of my home? The neighborhood it’s located in. I’d really like someplace a little newer, to be honest. One day.
A mile from our church and 2 miles from the beach.
It was so hard to move. I completely relate. We bought our first home on June 14th, 2000 and moved to AZ June 14 2009. It was hard to get adjusted, but Brian {my sweet husband} picked out the perfect home. We are very close to work and very close to the kids school ~ that is my FAVORITE part, because it makes every day easier.
