sleep tight little ones.

steve just got back from a visit to india and it’s been making me reflect on how blessed we are. how thankful i am to tuck my boys into their cozy, warm beds at night. and they sleep away without a care in the world. our lives aren’t perfect but we are certainly blessed with every basic necessity. and i don’t want to take that for granted!

so as i tuck the boys in at night and my heart wants to explode with gratitude for their little lives. and i pray that God will protect them, and grow them into men who love the Lord. The video below is just a few seconds, but to me, it’s a treasure!

do you have kiddos? what do you pray for your children?

  1. Truly a beautiful video! Thank you for sharing with us. How blessed we are to tuck our babies in at night and there is nothing more precious then just watching them sleep so peaceful and sweet.
Everynight before I go to bed, I always go to each of my 3 children and check on them and kiss them on the cheek. The other night when I kissed my Maxwell, who is 7 yrs. old, I swear he smelled like a newborn baby again.
That scent. It was there on his little soft cheek.
I had to go back to inhale that scent a few times before going to bed.
It was the most magical smell.
They will always be our babies, no matter how much they grow….

  2. Oh wow! That was a beautiful video and watching it made me tear up :)! I pray that God will keep my kids safe too. I love watching your memories with your kids…it reallys makes me appreciate that that the smallest of moments are the ones that matter most :).

  3. Hi Lisa! I follow your blog and have some jewelry of your also. I am the mother of three beautiful children; Mackenzie 17, Madeleine, 11, and Caleb 7. Mackenzie and Madeleine have medical issues that are overwhelming sometimes and in my prayers I do not always remember to just be thankful for their beds and our home. I am always so caught up in praying for healing, mercy, and grace that I overlook the blessings that are all around us. Thank you for reminding me to take a breath and be thankful for the small things while waiting patiently for answered prayers.

  4. Love the video. Wish I would have thought of it when she was little. My favorite picture of my daughter(full blown teen) this year is on the couch. Those faces always stay sweet!

  5. yes. i love this. i have two daughters, 4 & 7. i pray for their safety, their health, their happiness, and that they hold onto the values with which we are raising them.

  6. I have 2 children. A 4.5 y.o. son & a 2.5 y.o. daughter. I am not a spiritual person. I had a belief at one time, & it went out the window when my first son died at the age of 7 months. For my children now, I want them to be happy, healthy, & nice to each other!

  7. I love watching people sleep. There’s just something about the serenity of a good sleep that beautifies (even when they drool!). Especially children and babies. Oh, don’t they tug at your heart!!

I don’t have children of my own yet (maybe someday!!), but I do get to love on other people’s children. And there’s very little that’s better than a baby’s falling asleep on your chest. =D

  8. Ahhh, so precious. I always feel like my heart my explode too as I go into tuck my son in one more time, give him a few more kisses and I pray, like you, for his future. I thank God for giving him to us, I pray for myself to parent him in the ways of the Lord, I pray for his future spouse, I pray that he’ll shine his light to the world and that he’ll know how very loved he is.

    Happy Wednesday!!

  9. it is all about the “little things” to me! I love mine more than i could every say to show! I hope they grow up to be strong people that Love the Lord and Love what they do in life! that will make me one happy mama!

  10. Thank you for the idea of videoing sleeping children. This will be done in our house as soon as I am done typing. 😉 Thank you, too, for opening the forum for so many beautiful responses. I am moved to tears by them and am so present to what a gift my children are.

In our house we give thanks… for our many blessings; for the earth, the sun, the heroes (police, fire, military), our pets… anything that moves us in our moments of reverance. Today my little boy prayed over a plant that I, sadly, can’t seem to keep alive. I have no idea what he said because he was silent. What amazes me is that without my suggestion, this is how he chose to help something that I thought I’d better get rid of.
And, when I am alone, I pray for guidance on how to best serve these angels that He has given to me.

  11. Prayers for our children – we wear them on our sleeves, don’t we? We say our prayers together each night, and after tucking the covers over my son’s neck, I say “thank you for making me a lucky mommy!”
My prayers for Michael are summed up in a song – our song-
“My wish for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to, your dreams stay big, your worries stay small, you never need to carry more than you can hold…”

  12. There is nothing more precious than a sleeping child. Everyday, I pray that my children will follow the path that God has set before them, then they will follow the path of righteousness.

  13. Oh so sweet. Children are such a gift from God. That’s why I call myself blessedmom. I pray for their safety, and for their hearts too, that they will love the Lord and desire to keep Him first in their lives.
    Blessings,
    Marcia

  14. Sweet boys. My dad just got back from India last week, and yes, we are SO blessed. What a country in so much need. Sometimes I feel so blessed, I ask the Lord “Because you’ve blessed me so richly, what can I do to help those who have so much less?” I look for those opportunities.

I pray my daughter {and little one on the way} stays healthy, safe, and grows up to love the Lord and desires to serve Him with their lives.

  15. I pray that my girls will know their value comes from being just who God created them to be. I pray that my girlies will LOVE God’s word. I pray that they will walk humbly, do justice and love mercy. I pray that they will be protected from my many mistakes! I also pray a verse that varies based on each of their life stages/needs/struggles…right now it is James 1:19. As a family we have memorized it (although our 5 year old changed it to say “My dear sisters…”) and I prayed that it would saturate their hearts and their minds would be renewed by the power of God’s word!

  16. There is just something special about a sweet, peaceful, sleeping child that is like a calm after the storm of the day!
I pray that I am not a stumbling block to them. That they will grow to love the Lord their God wholeheartedly!
Sweet video! I need to do that sometime to hold those memories!

  17. I guess I don’t pray, because I don’t believe there is a God, but I have strong wishes that my children will love and be loved!

  18. This is such a precious video! I’ve been following your blog for a while and love getting inspiration for craft projects (especially your latest accents of yellow) and reading about your faith and beautiful family.

I was wondering what video editing program you use. They always are so beautiful and I love your music choice!

  19. I pray that my children will be kind to both others and themselves. I pray that they grow strong and healthy and experience much love.

  20. These days I pray that they sleep! 🙂 Is there anything more beautiful than sleeping children?

But for the big picture, that they will choose God and grow up to be boys who show respect and integrity towards others.

  21. A darling video. I’m so moved that you are grateful for your blessings. Sadly, I hear so many people today who think they somehow naturally are more deserving than others, and I know you aen’t that way. You have such a refreshing outlook. Your kids are lucky to have YOU.

  22. beautiful video. Wish my kids were little again. Very Sweet. Hey Lisa by chance have you picked a winner for the shabby apple dress giveaway? Hoping its me!! or someone deserving.

Enjoy your day Lisa. I am opening my umbrella today

    1. hi nancy! i’ll try to pick a winner today or tomorrow! i hope it’s someone who will really love it too!!

  23. I must say I love, love, love peeking in on them as they sleep.

Their peace, comfort and gentleness that is displayed is so precious and it always wipes away any tantrum or “dare I say” *back talk* that may have went on during the day. I see them. What I love. My little kiddos….lucky…blessed…loved!

    Smiles!

  24. I have a 17 month old boy. I pray that he is happy and that he will grow to be a kind person and a gentlemen towards women.

  25. I don’t have children yet, but I often pray for the children that I hope God will give me. I pray that they would love God with their whole hearts and that they would be always seeking after Him.

  26. I go in almost every night and try to take a mental picture of them sleeping so I don’t forget. What a beautiful idea to remember them that way forever.

I also often times crawl into bed with them after they are asleep to cuddle them.

We pray that they might always choose the right and return with honor.

  27. We pray over our kids every night. We almost always include a prayer that God protects their purity and that of their future spouses if He wills that they are to marry.

  28. My prayer is that my girls will always have the courage, strength and faith to get through any challenge that comes along. And…to be happy.

  29. My son is now 10 months old, and I never knew how much love I could have or feel for one person. I pray each and every day that he is happy, finds happiness in life and is healthy.

I just recently started taking him to church, and I want him to know its a safe and fun place to be and worship, experiencing faith.

  30. I was very privileged to be a mother for six months. Our little one left us on Valentine’s Day. Every night I prayed that God would protect and heal him, claimed Jeremiah 29:11 over him and that God’s peace would surround him as he drifted off to sleep. Every night I miss getting to pray for him, it was one of our most treasured times together. Your video was beautiful.

  31. Very sweet video. Children are such a blessing!!! I’ve been following your blog for about a week and have enjoyed it very much. I spent about an hour yesterday looking at entries clear back to about Aug. last year. I like your style and what you have to say. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and heart with all of us. I also like your jewerly, I think I will order the camera pendant at some point in the near future.

  32. what a beautiful video. thank you for sharing it.

it seems that every time i pray for my children lately…(ages 20, 17 and 14)i am moved to tears. i have been a single parent for 10 years and when i pray for my children i am most aware that i am not alone. they have a loving father who loves them and knows them even more and better than i could. i pray that He will fill their hearts and their minds and that He will continue to bless me with everything i need to be the mother He wants them to have.

  33. There is something so sweet about sleeping children. I think they’re dreaming with angels. Loved the video!

  34. We are expecting our first baby in ~12 weeks. It is very exciting. I pray that my child will know how much love he or she has in his/her life. I pray that he/she will appreciate little, simple things and laugh and have fun.

  35. One of our most common prayers is that our girls will remain faithful to God and His calling on their lives for as long as they live. To us, nothing else really matters. It wont matter if they go on to get umpteen degrees in life if they miss out on what He created them to do.
On another note, one of our pastors just came back from India and was relating how “there is no place like India.” he said its the only place hes ever been to where he can wake up in the middle of the night sobbing because of the plight of the people. He said when you see mutilated children on the streets begging it breaks your heart. And not only that but the worst part is that the parents do that to their chldren so that they’ll be better beggars. What a fallen world we live in!
We are so richly blessed here in the US! Its not perfect but its so different from other nations.
I totally did not mean to be a Debbie Downer here but as soon as you said Steve just got back from there it reminded me of what we were told.
Have a wonderful day and enjoy those beautiful boys!
    XO,
    Sarah

  36. I have a five-year-old son and my hope for him is that he grows to be a kind and generous man. I pray that he feels God’s presence in his life and in our world. And I hope that he finds someone to love and finds that love returned. Our boy is such a sweet, energetic, silly soul and I just feel so terrified for him sometimes. I want to protect him from hurtful experiences, to ensure that he only has happiness in his life, but I know that’s impossible. All I can do is give him my love and support and pray that it is enough. Thank you for sharing your family with us! Your boys make me smile.

  37. I do not have children (I’m not sure I ever will), but I have a 6 month old nephew and every day I pray that his very young parents will do what is right for him, he will reach for his dream and succeed in life and that he will always know that I love him to the moon and back!

  38. Thanks for this wonderful video! I always like to watch my kids when they are sleeping (now they are 6, 12 and 14 years old) – there is so much love in me and every day before the kids go to bed we are praying. There are so many things the kids pray for (very funny – good school exercises for example). And every evening we had to say thank you for having all this wonderful things and friends around us. Beeing healty and that we can be together as a small family. Have a nice day and i’m looking forward to wiww.

  39. so sweet lisa. isn’t motherhood wonderful? and challenging? and rewarding? and scary? and…i could go on. i want and pray for so much for my daughter, but when it comes right down to it, i want her to be happy and healthy, to love and be loved, to be proud of her contribution to this world, and to know she always has a place to land if the going gets rough.
