we used to use the mason jars as drinking glasses when we were growing up! lots left over from canning veggies, fruits, and relish. my mom giggled at me recently because I was using one for water even though I had perfectly beautiful glasses in the cupboard! 🙂
I also love the idea of using the mason jars for “thankful thoughts”. each family member writes/reports something about his/her day that they are thankful for. the slips of paper are stored in the jar until thanksgiving when the jar is opened and we can read and remember all the special memories made throughout the year before. 🙂 it is good to be reminded about the treasured times and all the joy that life can bring!
We use mason jars to buy bulk items from our local co-op…I love looking at all of the different items in their jars- beans, nuts, flour, oats. Also love filling them with fresh flowers- looking forward to some daffodils and tulips soon!

When ever I see a Mason jar, I am reminded of my grandmother. She had a love for gardening and spent her days tending a fruit and vegetable garden. Her life revolved around the seasons and gardening. The fruits of her labor were then carefully preserved in a variety of sizes of mason jars. A visit to grandmothers meant a meal with garden canned vegetables and a dessert which included delicious preserved berries. Our farewell embrace was sealed with a mason jar of homemade raspberry jelly, to tide us over until the next trip.
I love to use them for floating candles with water and berries or fun things the show off the season.
I love using them to store small craft supplies!

Hi Lisa! Love the new My Treasure necklace! So sweet. I use mason jars for my little 3 year old boy’s collections – buttons, tiny toys, little candies. My little guy loves to collect.
also use it for our “bored” jar. If the kids say they are bored, they go to the jar and pick a slip of paper. There are all kinds of odd jobs to do “for when they are bored”: sorting tupperware to lids, sorting socks, writing a letter….etc…. It actually doesn’t get used much but everyone knows it is there.
I also use them to organize pens and pencils!
I love to put flowers in mason jars and attach a ribbon to it!
We also love to store our “collections” in them: buttons, seashells, marbles and rocks.

This necklace & Mason jars make me think of summer college breaks spent with my best friend’s family in southern Michigan… drinking lemonade out of mason jars, catching fireflies, and having soul-deep talks with my soul-sister and her family. My favorite thing to do with mason jars is wrap fine wire around them, place a votive inside and place them around my deck, on the picnic table, or even hang a few from our trees. It’s lovely to sit on the deck as the light fades and see the soft glow of the candlelight.
Althought I already commented on how I use mine for iced tea, I wondered if you had ever thought of putting/creating lightning bugs into the jar for your jewelry? It made me think today while working of all the different uses I have had in my life and that has to be a favorite memory as a kid collecting them and then releasing them so they wouldn’t die.

My children’s grandma Georgia always kept buttons in a mason jar. When the grandkids would visit she would bring out the buttons & give the kids a quilting needle with thread & the the kids would make bracelets & necklaces with the buttons. When grandma passed she gave the jar of buttons to my oldest daughter. To my daughter this is the dearest & most precious gift she has ever received. So I too wish to fill a mason jar full of buttons for my grandchildren to remind them of me & all the times we made jewelry.
