the most beautiful places I have ever been – castle and cathedral ruins, scotland

We hopped over to Scotland for a long weekend. And when I say hopped, I mean two trains and a car rental. The good news, we survived–and we are better for it! We had a seriously wonderful time with our friends Tim and Marijke in St. Andrews. We visited the castle and cathedral ruins. St. Andrews is seaside and it may be one of the most beautiful places I have ever been in my life! I could hardly take it all in.

Thank you, Tim and Marijke for hosting us! If you’re heading to St. Andrews, we stayed at the Castlemount bed and breakfast and it was perfect. Just right for our family.

This week we’re visiting Brighton and London. I can’t wait! Is there a place you’d like to see? Where do you long to travel?

    1. Kristin! We are celebrating Halloween in Brighton, so excited! The boys do great on the plane, I feel so blessed. Thank you for following my trip on my blog!

  3. Hey Lisa so glad you’re enjoying your trip to the UK! I’m English and live near Eastbourne (30 mins from Brighton?) and used to work in Brighton, have you been before? There are so many awesome things to do there! You should try the pavillion, it’s lovely. They do a nice tea there too. And definitely go shopping in the lanes, they are awesome. And go to the beach and take photo’s of the burnt pier, in the evening, it’s lovely. You should also have fish and chips on the beach in the evening 🙂 And try the wheel. And if you want a cute village to visit, try Ditchling nearby. Adorable!

    xx

Ps, did you bring any jewellery with you? Would love to cut down on poastage costs! Kidding 🙂

    1. I really like you Felicity. 🙂 Thank you so much for all the suggestions on places to go in Brighton, I definitely will let you know where we end up going. I’m so excited! You have such a beautiful country!

      1. Ah, it’s true, we do have a beautiful country, and the South Coast is my favourite by far. I see the South Downs from my bedroom window, I’m very lucky.
        Enjoy Brighton and London.

        xx

  4. You had perfect light for photographing the town! You’ll have to make an awesome coffee table book when you get home!

I have always wanted to go to Cuba, actually.

  5. I live in Kent, a 45 minute train ride from London. I love how you describe our country as living here I take so much for granted. When you are in Brighton look up Choccywoocydoodah in Dukes Street, the shop window is always amazing, have fun 🙂

  6. SO beautiful! This is on the bucket list for my husband and I…someday! Thank you for sharing the beautiful images you captured.

  7. My son lives in Glasgow, Scotland and has for nearly 30 years. We have visited St Andrews, walked on the Old Course, used the bathroom in the clubhouse. It was really plush! Been to London several times. Done British Museum, did a walking tour (tour guide a person friend who has lived in London for at least 25 years), went to Ducsford (American military base in WW2), been to several places in Scotland. Last month we went to Edinburgh and toured the royal yacht. Have lots of fun and keep the pics coming.

    1. Barbara you are my kind of girl. We love it here too! So glad you’ve had the opportunity to come back so many times. It’s such a beautiful place!

  8. Wow! So amazing!

How do you take such beautiful “self portraits” at arm’s length? Do you use an iPhone? They are incredible!

    1. You are so sweet. I have a lens that has a wider angle so it can capture more in the frame. I highly recommend them!

  9. Great Britain is my favorite place in the world! I have been to England, Scotland, and Wales and would go back in a heartbeat. Your photos capture the “grey and dampness” so well I feel like I am there! If you get a chance to stop in Durham or York they are amazing cities! Enjoy the hustle and bustle of London. So very jealous!

    1. I am so glad that you enjoy Great Britain just as much as we do. We love it here! I may have to check out those cities that you suggested!

  10. St. Andrews is my FAVORITE place in Scotland. It is beautiful; you got some great shots, and I really think a person has to see it in person to appreciate it–so I’m glad that you got to! Enjoy the rest of your trip to England!
