an everyday moment {brothers}

matthias’ class took a field trip to the local post office and they each mailed a postcard to someone in their family. matthias wrote to david and said ‘ dear david, i hope you feel better and get a good night sleep. i hope you feel better by tomorrow. love, matthias’.

david has a nasty cold and has been out of school for the last week and a half. i love seeing matthias’ hand-written letters formed into words that show love and care.

i love that he chose to write his postcard to david.

they have the same parents, they share a bedroom, they love each other, they annoy each other. every day of their lives, they spend growing up together. although their relationship looks different than many siblings, they are brothers. i believe they are better for having each other. and my heart is full.

do you have an everyday moment that touched your heart lately?

  1. when my 4 and 8 yr old girls hug – they really do love each other – even when they bicker about the silliest of things – I know its’ real when they BEG to sleep together! Its’ a huge weekly treat for them..

  2. A moment that touched my heart this week happened while I was driving with my 3 year old, Isaac. It had been a stressful morning and we were runing late. I was emjoying a moment of silence on our drive when Isaac asked, “Does Jesus change the world?” Just like that my heart melted into a big pile of mommy goo. My reply? “Yes, my child. More than your 3 year old mind can even understand.” Just goes to show that Jesus can use anyone as a vessel.

  3. It’s so beautiful to capture these moments between siblings. My brother and I have become much, much closer recently and I treasure our friendship so much! Lately there have been words of support from close friends and near strangers and those are the everyday moments lifting me up right now.

  4. My kids having been really annoyed with each other recently so kind moments are few and far between. Grrr…. anyway. My 8th grade daughter asked me how to spell a word the other day and my second grade son piped up “I know how to”. Daughter was doubtful that he could, but he did! She was very amazed and thought it was pretty cool that he could spell the word. Then they went riht back to being annoying to one another.

  5. Beautiful story. Congrats on having two beautiful boys.

My moment…last Friday, my 10 month old son fell asleep in my arms. He has been so “crazy” lately with his newfound energy so this was such a nice change of pace. I didn’t bring him to his bed for another 2 hours, well after midnight. I just couldn’t stop looking at him sleeping in my arms. I am in love.

  6. Yesterday was my dad’s memorial service. One of the hardest days of my life. My husband and I took our 6 month old with us but left out 2 year old home with a sitter. When we walked through the door after a looooong day, my toddler jumped up and down and yelled “Baby, baby, baby!” over and over. Then he hugged on his brother for the next five minutes straight. Both my boys were beaming. Their mommy was smiling through fresh, happy tears.

  7. Dearest David,

You are in my prayers. Get well soon. You are so lucky to have a brother that draws such fantastic pictures for you.

  8. My girls have been stuck at home for the past 3 days due to snow. They may be driving each other (and me) nuts occasionally but they are currently building a for and giggling like crazy. Can’t beat that can you?

  9. yes, and it’s about brothers and it was my post about 2 of my grandsons who are brothers and how the 2 year old already loves the 4 year old and the 4 year old is so kind to the 2 year old – and that relationship – sitting on the couch together and wanting to be together. I am accustomed to watching the sister relationship and being in the sister relationship – it has its own grand & unique qualities – the brother relationship is new to me and I love watching it. Is that because I’m a girl?

  10. We were sitting at the table eating an everyday meal of meatloaf and broccoli and my almost 5 year old girl goes ” mommy, I love you more than unicorns!” My husband said “hey! What about me?” and after thinking a moment with her little blonde head cocked, she told him she loved him more than donkeys. My day was made! There is now a note on our bathroom mirror that tells him that I love him A LOT more than donkeys.

  11. Oh my goodness….I read your lovely blog but don’t comment as much as I should. This is the sweetest post……and makes me teary eyed. I always tell my two kids how important it is to be each others friend. So nice to see your two boys with caring hearts for one another.

  12. What a sweet story. Thanks for sharing.

I always look forward to read your blog everyday! It always brightens my day. 😉

  13. My middle daughter asked her older sister a very important question. She said, “Sister, do Care Bears wear socks?” She held her breath for Big Sister’s answer….”yes, if their feet are cold then they put on socks.” My daughter was satisfied that Big Sister knew the answer.
    I adore motherhood.

  14. My daughter, who is now 18, has a habit of saying “Thank You, Mom” each time I write a check for groceries. This started many, many years ago, and I am not sure what first prompted it…. she always does it. The clerks always seem a little surprised, and my heart just swells knowing God is shining thru her. Those little moments remind me how blessed I am to be her Mom!

  15. It’s icy in Dallas and we (my 3 boys 11, 9 and 7 and I)spent the day yesterday curled up on the sofa, fire in the fireplace doing schoolwork and then Despicable Me and The Sound of Music. It was a fantastic day!

  16. aww, BROTHERS! yay!! i have three little boys, and i love the brotherhood that has been created! make a brothers necklace (for mommies, of course) and i’ll be sure to buy it! 🙂

  17. How sweet! I have four sons…and they are all grown now, and all best friends! I love when they share the fun they have together! ♥ I hope David feels better soon! I talked to my oldest son, David last night on the phone! ♥

  18. How sweet!
I have been sick the past couple days too. Yesterday was the worst of it. When I’m sick I cry. I was up at 6am with my 18 month old daughter and my husband walks into the room and I start crying, my daughter walks off and the next thing I know she’s coming back with tissues for me. Melted my heart 🙂 Maybe it’s just toddler but I pray she’s always so kind.

  19. I also have two boys, ages 2 and 3 1/2, and they are getting to the point where they take up for each other, love on each other & comfort each other when one gets hurt. It’s such a special thing for me, their Mama, to watch.

  20. my 16 month old just started to really walk a few weeks ago, but yesterday night I realized that she never walked barefoot on the hardwood floors. She did not want to touch it, then she started dancing and did not stop for 10 minutes, watching her feet. I just stared at her, sucking up these moments and smiled.

  21. wonderful story about your sons. i do have an everyday moment – my grandson (bryson, 4 yrs old) was telling me tht he played mario cart game – i said that i can never keep my cart on the road – he said – very seriously – i will teach you gramma..well…….awwwww…he also told me that wheni get a new leg ( knee!) he and i will get on a motorcycle and race his mom! again – well – awwwww. but no thanks!! :^)

  22. My daughter is 2.5, she came up to me & said I love you Mommy, you’re the best! This was followed by a ginormous hug & kiss! My son 4.5 does the same thing, this was a first time for her. 🙂 My heart swells with love for them.

  23. lisa…. i have 5 children. yes, 5!! (i’m so blessed!)
everyday moments are a given in my house, from post-its with words of love on pillows before nights end to a sister who may have had a ‘not so perfect day’, or a “WOW, you’re the best!” – thoughts shared from sister to sister… so endearing! a protective brother, ( he’s 23!) who consistently texts his sisters telling them he thinks they’re beautiful and he loves them.
I believe it’s the ‘everyday moments that makes life oh so sweet!

  24. My 7yo has been going through a rough behavior phase at school (hopefully, it’s just a phase! lol). After several bad days in a row, he had a really good day and asked if he could have a turn at the dinnertime prayer that evening. After thanking God for the food, he added, “And thank you for helping me make better choices today.” Here’s hoping & praying for more & more “better choices” days!

  25. My un-everyday moment came this morning when my son woke up with a fever. At first I was frustrated, thinking of all that would NOT get accomplished today. Then after 2 minutes of some much needed snuggle time I realized there is nothing else more important that needs to be accomplished than this……
Hope your little one is feeling better soon, too. 😉

  26. So sweet, Lisa! I am so l;ooking forward to my little guy having a brother. Everyone tells me it’s the best. I lvoe how you share your life and your heart on your blog.

  27. That is so very sweet … you have raised such thoughtful boys/brothers! My son recently made a ‘get well’ card for my daughter … and, to date, I’d forgotten to remember it by taking a picture of it (I take a picture of all their special ‘artwork’ pieces, so we can remember them for a long time … without all the paper clutter!) Thank you for the reminder!
