this is such a fun little project that i found in sunset magazine.
it’s quick and if you probably have a lot of the materials needed on hand!
i punched one half hole at the top of the paper ( to create a groove) and six half holes at the bottom. then i used the embroidery thread to weave the tree from top to bottom.
i taped the beginning of the thread and then the end-it’s on the backside so no one will ever see it! then i slipped the tree into a black photo card and finished with a hand-stamped ‘merry’ tag.
this would be a great project to do with kids. older kids can probably do the project independently. smaller kids can decorate the tree with stickers after it’s made.

My daughter and I made these today and they are so easy! We ended up using cards that were green and red frames, variegated embroidery floss, and red and green cardstock (just cut up old file folders). They turned out super cute! Thanks for the GREAT idea!

I typically make my tags and I go back and forth with cards. I love this idea – so cute and simple!
Yep, I love to make my own cards but this year, I’ve also made lots of fun gift tags too, and I’m now having SO much fun wrapping gifts using them!!

I usually buy my Christmas cards but as I am de-trimming my tree and house of decorations, I go through all of my received Christmas cards and cut the front cover off each and use those as my tags the following year . I store them right there with the rest of my wrappings so I don’t have to search the following year.
oh how cute. thank you for sharing. i love simple activities i can do with my 3 year old. she will LOVE the outcome of this. we can do it for all of our christmas present tags…on a smaller scale and luckily i already have all the supplies.

lovely. i don’t hand make. michael takes the photo (at the last possible moment). next, we design a card (typically around the 23rd of Dec.), then i type up a letter (usually print on the 24th) after our bellies and hearts are full of Christmas we finally get them in the mail, and they become Happy New Year’s cards!
i have a friend who sends out Ground Hog’s Day cards every year. i’m thinking of following in her card giving footsteps.

Over the last 2 years, one of our traditions has been to buy butcher paper to wrap our Christmas gifts with. We lay the paper down the hallway, and our 4 year old (and sometimes mommy & daddy too) lay on the floor & draw all things Christmas. The paper looks beautiful, is hand made with love, and I simply tie our gifts with twine. Merry Christmas, & happy 2011!

Those are adorable!! Some years I make cards, but haven’t in a long time. I have a bunch of tags to use up, but will make some when they’re gone. I have made tags in the past, though. I have loads of papercrafting supplies having been a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator a number of years back. 🙂
