papier mache nests

i was totally inspired by this project from country living magazine. just in time for easter, too!

for supplies you’ll need shredded paper (i used strips of brown grocery bags), white glue (equal parts glue and water, mixed well), a small bowl, plastic wrap and wax paper.

i covered the small bowl with plastic wrap and started dipping strips of paper into the glue mixture. i knew it was going to be drippy and messy, so i made sure to lay down wax paper first. once i got quite a few layers of paper i let the nest dry overnight. then i carefully peeled away the nest from the bowl. so fun!

i filled the papier mache bowl with robin’s eggs {made by whoppers}. and set it next to a cute bunny that i picked up from target for $5.99.

thanks for the inspiration, country living! now i am totally excited up for easter. i want to decorate the house and start picking up things for the boys’ easter baskets.

do you decorate for easter?

  1. This is a wonderful project Lisa. I was looking for a new Easter project that I could do with my class and this is perfect! Plus, it’s great for a teacher’s budget too. ;0) Have a wonderful week and thank you for sharing.

  2. Very cute little nest…and I think even I can do it! haha
I have a few Easter decorations…some butterflies (actually a baby’s room decoration…but who cares)…some vintage looking egg holders and a few assorted items. I am trying to figure out where I put my “Chocolate” bunny…last time I packed it away so well….that I can’t for the life of me remember where I put it.Maybe I’ll find it by Easter. 🙂

  3. That is super cute! Love the nests!

We generally don’t decorate for Easter, concentrating this time on Lent. But early Easter morning is when I put out our spring wreath on the door — it is totally covered in bright flowers. To me it is a small way of outwardly showing our celebration that “Christ is Risen!”

  4. I love decorating for Easter! Remember the valentines canvas you did with the glitter heart? I did one for Easter with a Cross in place of the heart. And I made my own version of those cute Pottery Barn white eggs they are selling with the letters that say “Happy Easter.”

  5. i haven’t really in the past…but this blogging has changed a lot of my decorating habits…for the good! {my family is still talking about my valentine’s day festivities.} this is too cute…thank you for sharing. 🙂

  6. I saw that project in Country Living, too! I thought it looked like something I could do, i.e. not very complicated!!! I’ll have to give it a try soon. I even think my 4-yr-old would have fun doing it. Your little nest looks too cute!

  7. that is so cute!

we got the wand in the mail today, recorded my daughter opening it and thanking you! i will send it to you as soon as i have it loaded…lets just say she is in love and now wants to head to get the crown, dress, and shoes to complete her outfit?!

thank you so much for making our day!

  8. Cute! I can do this! And my kindergartener will be amazed at her mama’s talent! Thanks!
We decorate a bit, but it’s mostly spring related rather than Easter. Although I do have a cute feather tree this year, so I may find some sweet little ornaments for it.
A wand arrived today for one Easter basket at my house! Love it! And she will, too! Thanks!

  9. what an awesome craft project! might have to make it this weekend. I have a few bunny things I get out and sit around, and just last weekend I strung some plastic eggs on ribbon and hung them on my cherry blossom tree – now if only the weather would cooperate and LET it be spring in Ohio. we’re still battling 30-35 degree weather. : (
