hello sweet friends. i’m at blissdom! so good to be here. i can’t wait to share it with you all. i’ve prepared this post in advance–hope you get inspired!
so many of you shared that your valentine’s day plans included preparing a special meal for your family and i think that is a super sweet idea! so valentine’s morning i’m planning to make cinnamon rolls and eggs. yum!
i went to the dollar store and found these large foil hearts that i’ll use for the placemats, white doilies for layering and then some glitter hearts to string around the napkins. so sweet and simple!
we have a some flowers in our yard so i’ll snip one or two and put them in a little vase.
but the most meaningful part will be a little love note at each place setting. so many things i want to say to each of my boys. david is so determined, matthias is so creative and loving, steve is so hard-working and takes good care of me. so i’ll fill the notes with these little thoughts. it got me thinking, this doesn’t just have to be for valentines–it would be fun anytime!

We have had our “romantic Valentine’s dinner for six” (my husband & our 4 kids – 20,18,13&10) for the last 8 years or so. I decorate the table by sprinkling candy hearts & other valentine’s candy all over the table, add candles & lots of little tea lights (kids get so excited seeing the candy & dining by candlelight!!), an asstmt of pink & red napk/dishes/cups that I’ve collected on sale over the yrs & tiny wrapped gifts @ each setting. The meal varies but we always have flourless choc cake w/rasp for dessert. My kids look so forward to this tradition that my oldest boys will come home from college to celebrate with us.
such a cute setting! We always do fondue for Valentine’s Day dinner. My kids are still little (4 and 2) but they love it.We dip bread, apple slices, and (gasp) very tacky but it’s for the kids….little smokies. 🙂 My Swiss friends would die if they knew how I killed the tradition, but for us, it’s too much fun!;)
One of our favorite breakfasts is homemade cinnamon roll pancakes(with homemade icing as syrup of course) served alongside a ham & cheese omelet roll. Its terrible on the waistline but great for those “special” occasions:)
We don’t “do” Valentine’s Day (between adults) in our house, but I think I’m going to take your idea and make a great, fancy-pants meal for my three guys. Thank you.

I love alicia’s idea of letting the kids choose the menu. In the past we’ve done a candlelight dinner on our good stoneware with the kiddos and then a special candlelit dessert and wine for my husband and I when they are in bed. I love the decorating ideas. This is just the jumpstart I need on planning. Thanks! Hope Blissdom rocks!
Love this! I’m definitely going to be whipping up some cinnamon rolls for the family too. Nothing says “I love you” like butter, sugar and cinnamon! Have you tried Ree’s recipe from The Pioneer Woman cookbook? I made them for Christmas and they are, by far, the best homemade cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had. Mmmm…
i like the idea of adding a love note to each place setting. i’ve done that at thanksgiving. “valentimes” is a perfect reason to give them an extra dose of love.
i’m now planning on surprising them with “heart-tarts” and “quiche-me” for b-fast.
i have a recipe for easy pop-tarts on my blog (last week), and will make them in the shape of hearts (saw this in family magazine). my kids will love it.

We always have a family candlelight dinner with china for Valentine’s Day…I let the kids pick the menu. Last year we had pancakes, scrambled eggs and bacon…by candlelight. It has become one of my kids’ favorite traditions, especially since they are all older (3 teenagers)…it makes everyone feel special.
