wolverton

*this post went missing so i am reposting it*

a couple of days ago we visited the little town of wolverton, where steve’s mom {the boys’ nana} grew up. we wanted to share a little bit of family history with david and matthias.

she lived in a little home on aylesbury street.

here is her house number–22. i imagine there are so many memories behind that door! i wish we could have gone in for a look around!

we asked the boys to sit on the step and smile. after about 20 takes i gave up–oh well! it still makes for a fun set of pictures in front of nana’s old house.

there were berries and flowers and pretty little things here and there.

and just down the road is the church she attended growing up. it was gorgeous–but it seems every town in england has a beautiful church in the middle of town!

headstones on the church property give so much insight into those who have lived and loved here–some of them date from the early 1800′s! it’s crazy to think about all the people who lived in this town and worshipped in this church. and it’s changed so much in the last 200 years!

here we are in the center of town–that’s cousin zoe with the boys.
have you ever had a chance to visit somewhere that was significant to your family history?

  1. thank you for all that you have shared on your trip – the headstone was so telling. A story in itself…lovely church also.

  2. My grandparents were from Italy – the only ones in their families to move to America. The summer after I graduated from high school I spent the summer in the little village they were from. It was an amazing experience and I learned so much about my grandparents from their siblings – people I had never met before!

  3. Oh my god, thats about 10 minutes from where I live!! Wolverton is a lovely place,it still has a lovely feel to it, which unfortunately a lot of little towns tend to lose. & yes, most towns have a church right in the centre! Glad you had a good vacation.xx

  4. My father-in-law immigrated from Switzerland as a teen, so we all went back there for Christmas this year! We got to go to his hometown and visit with some of the relatives one day during the trip. It was fun to see his house, church, school, etc. My grandmother immigrated from Italy and I still need to make it back to her hometown!
